A study released by the Ontario Student Trustees Association shows high school students in the Greater Essex County District School Board don’t want cell phones used in class and feel all sexualities should be taught in sex-ed.
Those were two of the questions asked in the online survey conducted province wide, attracting over 2,600 responses through Facebook.
Some of the findings for the local board showed 62% of students don’t want cell phones used in class, 81% feel all sexualities should be taught in sex-ed, and 43% of students admit to having been bullied in school. That stat surprised Student Trustee Jessica Mastronardi from Leamington District Secondary School. “In my mind I had pictured that statistic would be higher because we have so much campaigning against bullying. But then again maybe that statistic is a good thing and is showing what we’re doing in our schools and implementing bullying prevention teams is working.”
Mastronardi says the association is still going through the data, and plan to release more detailed reports and campaigns in the future.
