Next time you’re peeved about having to stop behind a school bus, remember this video…
Take a minute and watch.
In Washington State, an SUV ran by a stopped school bus with it’s flashers and extended stop sign and nearly clipped three children approaching the bus. I don’t care who you are, or where you’re going, or what reason you may think is justified for this, but you can’t be in such a big hurry that you almost kill three kids!
Show this to your kids, too. Remind them that this is the reason why we never run into the street and always look both ways.
The fine for this crime in Washington State is $300. But here in Ontario, if you don’t stop, you can be fined $400 to $2000 and get six demerit points for a first offence. If you are convicted a second time within five years, the penalty is a fine of $1000 to $4000 and six demerit points. You could also go to jail for up to six months.
Meanwhile, authorities are looking for the person who raced by and almost hit the kids. I hope when they’re caught, the punishment is much more severe than a measly $300.
**Some people are wondering if the bus stopped at an intersection. It appears the bus may have been picking up kids in the country. It seemed to pass quite a long stretch of grass/field before stopping in front of a wide driveway, meaning the car would have passed on the shoulder of the road.
