Sam Guenther of Harrow is just 9yrs of age. But for a little guy, he has a big heart. Read on…

***FINAL UPDATE at the bottom of the page…

On a recent trip to Toronto, Sam noticed a homeless man. He also noticed all the people who walked by the man without even looking at him. It was Sam’s first exposure to the plight of the homeless and it broke his heart. So he decided to do something about it.

He spent his birthday this year handing out watermellon at the Windsor Missions. He asked his friends not to give him presents but to give him backpacks instead to fill them up with items for those in need.

Sam has now started a Buck for a Puck campaign (click for details). As a very good goalie for his team, the Erie North Shore Minor Hockey team, the Erie Storm, he’s accepting pledges/donations for each puck he saves in net until Nov 15. He started with a modest goal of $100, but with community generosity, it has taken off, sending him far past his original goal with a lot of time left.  He’ll be donating the money to the Windsor Missions and Street Help.

He joined Cordell on Windsor’s Country Mornings to talk about it…

UPDATE: Here is Sam’s update on Nov 8, when he passed $1000!

Fundraiser ends November 15, 2017 with just a couple more games. Thank you ALL!!! Anyone still wanting to help the homeless please let me know. Every dollar WILL make a difference.
