Magical Taylor Swift Moment

June 10th, 2011 . gevans

The absolute best part of what I get to do is, every once in a while, being a part of making a dream come true. I got to be a little part of that today.

Thanks to Brianne D. and Big Machine Records a couple of Country 95-9 listeners are going backstage to meet Taylor Swift at Ford Field.

Check out the audio, it’s absolutely priceless to hear the reaction of 19-year old Lanette and 11-year old Mackenzie when Brianne gave them the news.

Sarah Cripps in studio!! Acoustic performance!!

April 19th, 2011 . gevans

Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah Cripps stopped by this afternoon. We had a great chat about her budding career and some of the cool stuff she’s been doing over the past year and change as she gets her career going.

Sarah, accompanied by Chad, were kind enough togive us an acoustic performance of Getaway Car which will be released this summer.

Wow! Sitting literally 3 feet away was incredible – I really envy those who have such a gift, and, if you missed it, here’s the audio for you to check out.

You can learn more about Sara online at  www.sarahcripps.com.

And…yes…she’s freaking GORGEOUS!  What? Should I not have said that???

SOUND of the earthquake that hit Japan – scary!!!

April 15th, 2011 . gevans

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and US Navy have released audio picked up by an underwater microphone 900 MILES AWAY from the earthquake which hit Japan a month ago.   It’s scary stuff.  Seriously, to think that this sound was some 900 miles away!  The audio is in two parts.  Part one is what the microphone picked up from the ocean floor directly underneath it as the sound travelled through the earth’s crust.  The second part – the really scary part -  is the audio the microphone picked up as the sound of the earthquake travelled through the water.

Stressed?

March 11th, 2011 . gevans

What’s that? You say you’ve had a *stressful day*???   Here’s a stressful day…

You pick up a hitchhiker, a beautiful girl.  Suddenly, she faints inside your car…so, you have rush her to the hospital. That’s stressful.

But at the hospital, they say she’s pregnant and congratulate YOU that you’re gonna be the Daddy!

You say whoa!  I’m not the father! But the girl says you are! This is starting to get VERY STRESSFUL.

But wait!  You demand a DNA test to prove you’re not the father. The test comes back and the doctor says “good news, bad news” and tells you that while the tests prove you’re NOT the father, they also prove you’re infertile and probably have been your whole life.  You’re EXTREMELY stressed, but relieved.

On your way back home you think about your 4 kids……now THAT’S stress!

Millions!

February 21st, 2011 . gevans

Somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million tax-free dollars were up for grabs in this weekend’s lotto’s, about 45-million each in 6/49 and Lotto Max.

Let’s say you won one of these suckers…aside from kicking a million to your good buddy Gary, what will you do with all that coin?

This isn’t a decision to be made in haste. You need to take your time, relax, and make wise, prudent decisions.

But, you’d be filthy stinkin rich too, so I recommend you make those decisions in one of the most decadent hotels in the world.

The Mondrian South Beach Hotel in Miami.

This place is fancy. Real fancy….the pool has a chandelier!

Your room will make your head spin, there are too many pictures to show you, but I chose a couple of favorites….here’s the den…yes, a den.

But it’s Miami! You’re going to want to be out in the sun while you think of ways to spend your millions! The good news is, your room has a patio!  Check out the hot tub in the foreground.

The hotel has 24-hour five star room service….but, what if you just feel like a little treat and you just can’t make up your mind what to get?  Good news!  There’s a vending machine in the lobby!

Not just any vending machine…this sucker’s got the most eclectic assortment of items you’ll see in the world…prices vary from $10 to $1.2 million.  Among my favorites, you can rent a 1953 Cadillac DeVille convertible. Want to remain cozy on your midnight walk down the beach? They’ve got a feather vest for $400.

AND you can get a pair of 24-karat gold handcuffs! Because….you never know….

Humour? Or Humor?

January 14th, 2011 . gevans

I’m going with humour, ok?  Humor me.

What kind of humour do you appreciate? I’m all over the place, really.  I’ve seen some YouTube Marx Brothers thingys that crack me up.  A good mix of clever and absurd.

Someone once told me my sense of humour reminds them of Charles Grodin.  I can see that, I have a ‘dry’ sense of humour.   But I’ll laugh my guts out at physical humour too…like Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura, or Kramer’s odd entrances/exits/mannerisms in Seinfeld.

I guess this is kind of random, but it was triggered by the photo below…every time I look at it, it totally cracks me up! What cracks you up? -g

Can I Borrow Some Cash?

January 10th, 2011 . gevans

The Christmas Glow is beginning to fade.  Did you get that first Visa bill yet?  Cripes!  The government regulates pretty much everything in our lives…driving, marrying, insurance, gasoline and so on, and so on, and so on. But it seems like credit card companies can just throw a dart at a rate board and that’s what we get stuck with!  What’s the Prime Rate?  Something like 1.25%…that’s the interest rate credit card companies pay to borrow…then, they turn around and charge YOU 18-27%.  Talk about white collar crime.  My sister Paula has a system in place, she shops for Christmas gifts year round and when December hits she’s sitting back with a big smile on her face.

Wish I could use credit cards like my buddy Derek in Halifax. He buys EVERYTHING on his credit card…BUT, he pays it off the same day.  Why?  He’s racking up airmiles like a bandit. Every year he takes a month off from the Post Office and goes skiing in Banff pretty much for free.

I have a more pressing issue…I took some of my coworkers to Kildare House in Windsor (GREAT place, btw) and the bill was a bit more than I expected.
