Jake’s Wedding Ring

April 19th, 2012 . rwolfe

Remember how Jake Owen SPONTANEOUSLY proposed to his girlfriend on stage last week? Well he got her a ring yesterday…

Jake Owen Engagement Ring

I think its gorgeous! 2.5 carat, set in patinum. Much better than the one Brad gave Angelina… but enough about them, back to the couple at hand, look how cute they are:

Jake Owen

I am happy for them. Sad that Jake is off the market, but they look so happy together, so its hard to be biter. Even though it was spontaneous, they had been talking marriage for a while and Jake still had a chance to ask her father for permission first. Such a romantic :)

Police Grant a Sick Kid’s Wish to Be Batman for a Day.

April 18th, 2012 . rwolfe

The police, fire department, and mayor’s office in Arlington, Texas teamed up to give a leukemia patient a VERY cool wish. Seven-year-old Kye told the charity “A Wish With Wings” that his one wish was to,  “be Batman”.  So, on Saturday, police gave Kye a Batman costume and teamed him up with an officer dressed in an adult Batman costume.

Other police officers and firemen helped stage a bank robbery by the Joker, and a city hall bombing by the Riddler, and Kye helped foil both. At the end of the day, he was presented with a key to the city.

Check out the video of the days events:

The Universe is HOW BIG????

April 17th, 2012 . rwolfe

I’m tall. I’m taller than Kara (she can still beat me up though).

Kara is taller than (most of) the kids she delivers pizza to with the class of the week.

Those kids are bigger than bumble bees.

Bumble bees are bigger than the cold virus… I could go on, but why, when you can see it? Check out THIS WEBSITE and see how big, OR how small we are when talking “big picture”. Its pretty cool, word of caution: you might get caught up in playing around with it, so make sure you have a few minutes before you click it, but once you do, you’ll get a kick out of it!

Five Strange but Effective Ways to Deal with Allergies

April 16th, 2012 . rwolfe

Seasonal allergies affect about 40 million Americans every year. Medications like Claritin and Zyrtec can be a big help. But if that’s not enough, here are five strange but effective ways to get some relief. Plus, they’re all-natural.

#1.) Shampoo Your Eyelashes. Pollen clings to them, then slowly makes its way into your eyes.

But researchers at Long Island Hospital in Brooklyn found that washing your eyelashes with baby shampoo twice a day can reduce redness, itching and puffiness by as much as 90%.

#2.) Eat Yogurt. Scientists in Italy found that two cups of plain yogurt a day can prevent flare-ups and reduce symptoms by 40% or more.

The “good” bacteria in yogurt helps your body produce more anti-inflammatory proteins. Those proteins help your immune system stay calm when it encounters pollen or other things that might cause an allergic reaction.

#3.) Drink Iced Tea. The antioxidants stop your body from producing a major allergy trigger called “immunoglobulin E”. (–pronounced immune-oh-glob-you-lin . . . or just IgE for short.)

–Black OR green tea is fine. Try to drink at least 24 ounces a day.

#4.) Wear Clothing That’s All Cotton. The reason dust clings to your TV screen is because the screen builds up a static charge that pulls in dust particles while they’re floating around in the air.

Synthetic materials like polyester and nylon do the same thing when they rub against each other. Which means you could walk around outside for a few hours without touching anything . . . but still be COVERED in pollen.

Cotton and linen attract about half as much.

#5.) Avoid Certain Foods. In PEAK allergy season, the proteins in some foods . . . including apples, carrots, zucchini, celery, and tomatoes . . . can make allergies even worse.

It’s called “cross-reactivity,” and affects about one-third of people who have issues with pollen. If you don’t WANT to give up those foods, just make sure you cook them. Heat breaks down the specific proteins that are responsible for it.

Why fake a lottery win?

April 11th, 2012 . rwolfe

…. Cause you’re nuts… thats why!

Thats her: Mirlande Wilson… you probably remember her. A couple weeks ago she came forward as the winner of the Mega Millions Lottery jackpot in Maryland. Then some drama came up – her McDonalds coworkers said that it was a group ticket. Mirlande said she bought the ticket seperately… enter the lawyers. Then earlier this week Mirlande claims she LOST the ticket. Now we know why she couldn’t find her “winning” ticket – she NEVER had one.

THE REAL WINNER stepped forward. Three school workers, they’re all good friends and they’re all going to split it, walking away with 35 million each after taxes. They also say they’re going to keep working (we’ll see how long THAT lasts).

As for Mirlande, when asked WHY she faked the win here’s what she said: “I don’t even know what happened, but everybody doesn’t know what really happened… If the money is for getting then I’m going to get it.”

HUH?

Yeah. Crazy!!! You can read more about the Story, and Mirlande’s crazy interview with Radar HERE!

Pet Fit Club

April 10th, 2012 . rwolfe

We’re all familiar with weight loss competitions like The Biggest Loser, in which overweight people compete to lose the most weight in exchange for big prizes. A veterinary charity in the U.K. has taken to the concept and adapated it for our tubby animal companions in a competition called Pet Fit Club. In the competition — which isn’t televised — 18 morbidly obese dogs, cats and rabbits will battle to drop the pounds on a strict diet and exercise program to get them back to a healthy weight. Overweight animals can have many of the same health problems as overweight people, including high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes and cancer, and the problem is a big one, with more than half of adults dogs and cats in the U.S. either overweight or obese. The winner of the Pet Fit Club competition will win a year’s supply of diet pet food and a two-night stay for the winner and two humans at a Four Seasons Hotel.

Its about time!
