Since sweeping the CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 4th, Chris Stapleton finds himself the new darling of Country music and the one people are hoping will turn the tides of the genre away from its current pop-centric sound. Chris, however, says there’s no right or wrong sound for Country music or any other genre.

“I feel very loved by these awards but I don’t feel like it’s a . . . I don’t feel like music is a war or it’s a battle or anything like that and I think people have a tendency to try to make it into that. I think we all are out here . . . and anybody who’s in here tonight making music and working to the degree that it takes to be in the room deserves your respect, and I think that of everybody that is out playing music, so if you don’t like a certain kind of music, that’s fine. It’s not for you, and if you like another kind of music, that’s great. Listen to that. Nobody gets anywhere by hating on somebody else’s music. What’s the point? It doesn’t make any sense to me but to each their own.”

Chris took home trophies for New Artist, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for Traveller.
