Sam Hunt is still riding high on his big American Music Awards win on Sunday, November 22nd for all-genre Favorite New Artist. The award proves that the singer has certainly helped stretch the bounds of country music since appearing on the scene little more than a year ago.

He told reporters at the AMA’s that he is proud to be part of today’s ever-evolving country music format.

“It’s a genre that I think people have for whatever reason written off over the years if they did not grow up listening to that genre. There are certain stereotypes attached to the genre that maybe have deterred people from listening to the music, and I think they were wrongfully attached and I think that’s one of the most fulfilling things I hear from fans who have listened to my record. They say, you know, ‘I never listened to country music before. I listened to your record,’ and now they’ve been turned on to other artists. It’s a diverse genre and I think there’s something for everybody in the genre, and it’s great to see it growing and sort of becoming America’s genre because I think there is something for everybody in the country music genre so I’m just happy to be a part of that movement.”
