Dierks Bentley Announces New Album
Dierks Bentley will release his ninth studio album, called The Mountain, sometime early this year. Dierks shared the news on social media and hosted a Facebook live Q & A on Wednesday, January 10th, where he told fans about the inspiration for The Mountain.
“I knew this summer I wanted to make a record that kind of touched on the West a little bit, where I’m from, but I wasn’t really sure how to do that — was it a lyrical thing, was it a sonic sound — and I was out in Telluride. I was fortunate enough to be asked to play the Bluegrass Festival in Telluride and was on stage and just felt this amazing energy coming out of the mountains up there, and I’ve always been really drawn to mountains. I grew up in Arizona with a mountain in my backyard. Just something about being in that landscape at this particular time really struck me in a musical way.”
Shortly after the Festival, Dierks returned to Telluride for a retreat with fellow songwriters Natalie Hemby, Luke Dick, Ross Copperman, Jon Randall, Jon Nite and Ashley Gorley. The bulk of the album’s songs, including the title track were written during that week, which Dierks describes as the most inspiring creative experience he’s ever had.
“Telluride just makes you want to reach for your guitar. We all went out there and got completely off the grid…out of our normal element and the grind that happens on Music Row and it was, from the very get-go, magic. We’d wake up every morning, grab a coffee, take the gondola up, watch the sun come up over the mountains, and by 8:30 we were writing. We just wrote non-stop.”
Dierks even recorded the album in Telluride.
Fans who pre-order the album now on Dierks.com will receive a Key to The Mountain that will unlock extra tracks, bonus videos, special merchandise and VIP experiences with Dierks on his 2018 tour.
