Terror Train Hero Alek Skarlatos — Oregon Campus Shooting Hits Close to Home

Published On October 2, 2015 | By Kendal Malewicz | Entertainment News

This is a pretty wild coincidence . . . Army National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos from “Dancing with the Stars” used to go to Umpqua Community College in Oregon where yesterday’s horrifying mass shooting took place.

He got a spot on “Dancing” after being one of three Americans who stopped a terrorist attack on a train headed from Amsterdam to Paris back in August.  He was on the train because he was on his way home from Afghanistan.

Naturally, Alek was shaken up by news of the shooting.  He said, quote, “I was enrolled [there] prior to my 2014 deployment to Afghanistan.

“While I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time in August aboard a train bound for Paris, I only wish that the same could be said for today.”  He also planned on heading back to Oregon last night.

For what it’s worth, Alek was taking classes at UCC to become a police officer.
