Midland Discuss Their Success

Midland’s debut single, “Drinkin’ Problem,” has struck a chord with people who love their late 70’s /early 80’s country throwback sound. Bassist Cameron Duddy think it’s because they’ve found a musical lane where not a lot of new music is being made.

“Well, what’s interesting about country radio across the board is that they’ll play what’s current now. Sam Hunt’ll play and then the next song is Brooks and Dunn. So there’s still a voracious appetite for that stuff and there hasn’t been a lot of new creation in that lane and I think that’s why people are hungry for it. There hasn’t been a lot of artists making that kind of music. So yeah I think that we’re just hitting a lane, I guess, that people aren’t getting enough new creation of as far as the sound goes, but that’s just the music that we like and that’s what we’re playing and we’re just happy that people like it. If this was two years ago I don’t know if we’d be having this conversation. So it just happens to be the right place at the right time and we put in our 10,000 hours and we’re ready to do it.”

Midland will perform at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Calgary, AB on Saturday, July 8th.
