Dierks Bentley appeared on NBC’s Today show on Thursday, August 1st to perform a few songs for the crowd gathered outside the Rockefeller Center studio and wound up adopting a dog.

He joined the show’s hosts during the third hour to celebrate “Dog-ust First,” a universal birthday for all shelter dogs whose birthdays are unknown.

Dierks was holding a puppy from the Muddy Paws shelter named Goose, which turns out is the singer’s nickname for one of his kids.

By the end of the segment, Dierks made the decision to adopt Goose.

He shared an Instagram video of himself carrying Goose out of the NYC studio.

Dierks said their next stop was Darien Center, NY, his stop last night on his Burning Man Tour. Fans at the show likely got to meet Goose as Dierks said he was going to bring the dog out on stage.

Goose brings the Bentley’s dog total to three.
