Tornado Destroys Parts Of Nashville As Death Toll Rises
Authorities say the number of deaths from devastating tornadoes in Tennessee is at least 25, with an unspecified number of people missing. Tornadoes ripped across Nashville and other parts of the state in the early morning hours, destroying more than 140 buildings.
Rescuers are combing through wrecked neighbourhoods for bodies. The governor has declared an emergency and sent the National Guard to help with search-and-rescue efforts.
Canadian country music star Brett Kissel says a Nashville music venue he has played at called The Basement is now just a pile of bricks.
Kissel, who is from Alberta, says the tornado that tore through Nashville narrowly missed his condo. But he says much of the surrounding neighbourhood in ruins.
Dierks Bentley had a close call with the weather Monday night—the singer shared a video of a storm cell that his plane passed around 11:30 pm; later that evening, the same cell turned into the deadly tornado that hit Nashville overnight.
