When Trisha Yearwood isn’t busy making music, writing cookbooks, or hanging out with that guy named Garth, she spends time mentoring the younger female country singers.

What’s been cool for me is I’ve embraced the role of, ‘hey, I’ve been around for 30 years, so I’m not the new kid on the block anymore,’ and I’ve enjoyed becoming friends with some of these young girls. I’ve gotten a chance to sing with Lauren Alaina. She’s a hoot and I call her ‘Junior,’ because she’s from Georgia. Her story is very similar to mine growing up. And then Caylee Hammack who opened some shows for me, she grows loofah. I didn’t even know you could grow loofah . . . and she sent me some in the mail. I got homegrown loofah from Caylee Hammack.”

Trisha believes we’re heading in the right direction.

“I think country music for women is in really good hands and I’m happy to be the old chick that they like.”
